  • Executives of Firm Tied to Trump Dossier Take the Fifth at Committee Meeting

Trump previously blasted two officials from Fusion GPS, the political research firm behind the dossier, for exercising their Fifth Amendment rights on Thursday.

"Officials behind the now discredited "Dossier" plead the Fifth", the president tweeted. The Washington Post reported back in February that the Federal Bureau of Investigation had planned to pay the Steele for the dossier but never ended up doing so; the Federal Bureau of Investigation did not request that the dossier be compiled in the first place, as Trump suggests.

Fusion GPS has refused to say who payed for the dossier, which was compiled by retired British intelligence officer Christopher Steele. The document was circulated among journalists in 2016 and provided to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Fusion GPS has gone to court in an attempt to block a House committee subpoena for the company's banking records.

Committee Chairman Devin Nunes of California didn't attend the interview. But Fusion's clients remain a mystery. "Who paid for it, Russia, the Federal Bureau of Investigation or the Dems (or all)?"

Fritsch and Catan took the Fifth on every question posed by committee members.

In August, Fusion GPS co-founder Glenn Simpson testified to the Senate Judiciary Committee for 10 hours, Levy said.

In his series of Thursday morning tweets on Russian Federation matters, the President also falsely claimed that Hillary Clinton was involved in striking a uranium deal during former President Barack Obama's tenure, as he did several times on the 2016 campaign trail, although there's no evidence of her involvement.

Regarding the Facebook (NASDAQ:FB) Tweet, it was reported last month that officials at the social networking site told Congress that a Russian "troll farm" had spent $100,000 in ads during last year's campaign. "What about the billions of dollars of Fake News on CNN, ABC, NBC & CBS?" he continued.

He also took aim, yet again, at his formal presidential campaign rival. Of note, 70,000 or so votes across three key states handed gave Donald Trump an Electoral College victory and thus, the presidency.
