  • Friend: Rand Paul Attack Was Property-Related

"The unfortunate occurrence of November 3 has absolutely nothing to do with either's politics or political agendas", Baker told Fox News.

A close friend and neighbor of Rand Paul says the attack on the us senator apparently had something to do with property. The senator's office did not immediately reply to a request for comment on the possibility of federal charges.

Boucher may still be facing additional federal charges as Warren County continues their investigation alongside Kentucky State Police and the FBI. He says it was a disagreement between two neighbors.

Boucher pleaded not guilty Thursday to fourth-degree assault for allegedly attacking the senator outside his home Friday afternoon.

A longtime neighbor accused of assaulting U.S. Sen. While he did not witness the incident, Skaggs has said Boucher and Paul have been quibbling over lawn maintenance for years. Rand Paul is not taking responsibility for his attack on the Kentucky lawmaker.

A pre-trial court date was set for November 30 by Warren County District Judge Brent Potter, ABC News reported.

Rene Boucher, 59, waived the formal reading of the charge at a hearing in Bowling Green, Kentucky, Warren County Attorney Amy Milliken said by telephone. "It is not clear exactly how soon he will return to work, as the pain is considerable as is the difficulty in getting around, including flying", said Doug Stafford, Paul's senior advisor, in a press release.

Paul tweeted about his injuries Wednesday, sharing the news about his broken ribs and adding that he had a pleural effusion, which is an accumulation of fluid resulting from inflammation or changes in pressure in the chest.

The ongoing mystery is what led to the assault.

Media reports have said Boucher, also a physician like Paul, had a long-running dispute with the senator.

Paul and Boucher have been neighbors for 17 years in a gated community in Bowling Green.

Boucher's lawyer said Monday that the attack was "a very regrettable dispute" that was "trivial".
