  • Aly Raisman says she was sexually abused by US national team doctor

Another Olympic gold medal gymnast is speaking out about the alleged sexual abuse she suffered at the hands of the team's doctor. She is, so far, the highest-profile gymnast to come forward with allegations. "Why not look at 'what about the culture?' What did USA Gymnastics do, and Larry Nassar do, to manipulate these girls so much that they are so afraid to speak up?" she said.

"Why are we looking at why didn't the girls speak up (earlier)?" she said in the interview.

"I am angry and I'm really upset", Raisman told 60 Minutes.

Raisman says a lot of people have asked her why Nassar's accusers didn't speak up sooner.

Raisman is the latest gymnast to speak out against Nassar after Jessica Howard, the USA national rhythmic gymnastics champion from 1999 to 2001, and Jeanette Antolin, a Pan American Games silver medallist, also revealed they had been the victim of sexual abuse on the same programme in February.

Raisman, a six-time Olympic medalist and two-time national team captain, shared her story on the "60 Minutes" show scheduled to air Sunday, joining more than 130 other women who previously said the doctor sexually assaulted them. She said she feels as though the organizations were more concerned with protecting their image and protecting themselves legally than with preventing abuse in the future. "I think that needs to be addressed", she said.

Raisman, 23, will also be exposing the sick details of the alleged abuse on her memoir, Fierce.

Raisman told "60 Minutes", in an interview scheduled to air Sunday, that she spoke to FBI investigators after serving as national team captain at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Aly Raisman is the latest pro athlete to come forward accusing USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar of sexual assault. Maroney revealed allegations in a tweet on October 18, in which she included the hashtag #MeToo.

Three former members of the national team then accused Dr. Nassar of sexual abuse.

"For me, the scariest night of my life happened when I was 15 years old", Maroney wrote in her original social media post.

The former athlete, who claims to be "angry", wants to "just bring change" so that young gymnasts "never have to live this again". According to them, the osteopathic doctor was comforted by the particular environment of high-level gymnastics, where complaints and signs of injury could endanger Olympic dreams.

"In the previous year, Aly has become an advocate for many issues, and sharing her personal experience of abuse takes great courage", USA Gymnastics said.

USA Gymnastics approved a new safe sport policy as a result of the recommendations made by the review. "We want to work with Aly and all interested athletes to keep athletes safe", it said. He was sacked by USA Gymnastics in 2015 after working with the organization since 1986 - he had been its national medical coordinator since 1996, the New York Times reported.
