Mike Flynn under Special Counsel Investigation for Cleric Deal

  • Michael Flynn and his son Michael G. Flynn are reportedly being probed by Speical Counsel Robert Mueller over a kidnapping plan to snatch a cleric away from the U.S. and deliver him to the Turkish government

The media reports claim the alleged plan involving Flynn and Turkish officials was discovered during Mueller's wider investigation.

According to the paper, Mr Flynn and his son, Michael Flyn Jr., were to be paid as much as $15 million for delivering Fethullah Gulen to the Turkish government, according to people familiar with the investigation.

He is now the center of criminal, military and congressional investigations that seek to unearth a possible connection between that and his decisions while he was the president's adviser.

Donald Trump's former national security adviser, Michael Flynn, is under investigation for involvement in a plot to kidnap a Turkish dissident cleric living in the United States and fly him to an island prison in Turkey in return for $15m, it was reported on Friday. The cleric has been living in exile in the US since the late 1990s.

While Flynn has had a relationship with Turkey, his counsel denies the Wall Street Journal's report, according to CNN.

Mueller's investigation into Trump's aides has intensified in recent weeks, with charges being brought against the president's former campaign chairman, an ex-campaign official and a former foreign policy adviser.

Flynn allegedly discussed the plot at a meeting in NY in December 2016, when he was a member of then U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's transition team.

According to the two reports, the discussions included details of how Gulen, a Muslim cleric who lives in Pennsylvania and has a large Turkish following, could be flown secretly by private jet to the isolated Turkish prison island of Imrali.

Flynn was sacked after just 24 days as Trump's national security adviser over misleading Vice President Mike Pence about his conversations with Russia's ambassador to the U.S., Sergey Kislyak.

Multiple sources have told NBC News that Mueller has gathered enough evidence to lead to an indictment in the investigation into Flynn and his son.

Flynn was a senior adviser on national security matters to the Trump campaign at the time, though he was also on a foreign government's payroll.

Lt. General Michael Flynn hasn't taken any interviews since leaving the White House and becoming a subject of Special Counsel Robert Mueller's Russian Federation probe.

Let's note for context that Flynn, after getting caught lying about his interactions with Russian Federation, parted ways with Trump's White House just three weeks into Trump's presidency. "But today's news cycle has brought allegations about General Flynn, ranging from kidnapping to bribery, that are so outrageous and prejudicial that we are making an exception to our usual rule: they are fake".
