  • Duterte Killed as Teen: Philippine President Claims Stabbing

PRESIDENT Duterte is all smiles as he heads back home after a successful participation in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit in Vietnam.

Philippine police said past year that almost 6,000 people had been killed in the violence.

Since taking office in 2016, President Duterte and his administration have waged a lethal anti-drugs campaign that has resulted in widespread extrajudicial executions.

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte will host world leaders in Manila from Sunday, hoping their presence will quieten worldwide criticism over his deadly drugs war, which rights groups say may be a crime against humanity.

Duterte said earlier in the week that he planned to ask China to make clear its intentions in the South China Sea.

But rights groups have expressed alarm and disappointment that Trump and most others are likely to endorse or stay silent over Duterte's violent rule, which has seen thousands of people killed. "I had to thank Mr. Xi Jinping for the timely and crucial help that he extended to our country when we were fighting the siege of Marawi", he said.

Last month, Ms Callamard said it was "reprehensible and unconscionable" that Filipino politicians voted to cut the annual budget for the country's human rights body to 1,000 pesos (£15).

"At the age of 16, I killed someone".

He at times denies inciting police or others to kill, but also consistently generates headlines for his abusive language and incendiary comments defending the drug war. I was just 16 years old. A real person, a rumble, a stabbing. It was just over a look.

Trump is expected to try during the summit to shore up relations, which have been strained by the mercurial Duterte's notorious anti-U.S. sentiment and his enthusiasm for better ties with Russian Federation and China. He also said in part, "Jail?"

Then-presidential candidate Duterte outlines plans to eradicate drugs in the Philippines by killing so many dealers it will unleash a boom for funeral businesses.

Duterte goes into the event appearing confident that even his most outrageous remarks and actions will be ignored, having boasted in the lead-up he once stabbed someone to death, while at the same time proposing to host a global human rights summit.

In a letter to Trump, members of the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission on Capitol Hill urged Trump to address the extrajudicial killings.

Duterte's spokesman, Harry Roque, has since told the British news network that the comment was made in jest.

They accused the USA military of committing human rights abuses in Mindanao.
