The DC movie, which hits U.S. theaters tomorrow, earned positive reviews from 43% of critics on the site as of 3pm ET on November 15-few enough to deem the movie "rotten" in early consensus. The anticipated grade for Justice League has come under particularly tough scrutiny after it was delayedalmost a day so that it could be revealed on the site's new Facebook show See It/Skip It.
Not that any of it really matters anyway, as The Wrap are reporting that Justice League is on track to make up to $120 million in its opening weekend in the States alone. And bottom line: Justice League is seriously ho-hum, offering negligible thrills and some screamingly ridiculous plot twists. This indicating to some that WB didn't want the score getting out there and influencing audience's not to see the movie.
The fact that Justice League is now falling pretty much right in the middle of the road - we've seen it, and thought it was a hot mess, but with some great potential for where the DC universe goes next - surely points out that the movie isn't as bad as critics had initially feared, nor as good as DC fans would have hoped.
43% is the current Rotten Tomatoes score. This score is the result of an aggregate of reviews. Of course, the film's rating on the website could impact the box office collections majorly but it also raised eyebrows and speculations that the movie has a negative ranking on the site.
On the positive side, there are many sites who are giving the film good reviews, including Variety, The Verge, USA Today and LA Times. Generally, the closer the reviews are published to the movie's release date, the lower the score, according to a Mashable report.
Some have criticized Warner Bros. for trying to race to the finish line in its world building effort when it comes to this shared cinematic universe. I see Justice Leaguetomorrow night at 6:30pm, so I'll be online shortly after with my own thoughts. Way better than Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which received a 27 percent rating previous year - and famously led Brett Ratner, who helped finance the film, to declare that Rotten Tomatoes represented "the destruction of our business". But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes-Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash-it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.
