  • CBS suspends Charlie Rose; PBS halts his show after allegations

The Charlie Rose sexual harassment scandal was the lead story on CBS This Morning, the show he was suspended from after The Washington Post reported allegations that he behaved improperly with women who worked on his PBS talk show.

The 75-year-old has now been suspended from hosting the popular programme CBS This Morning.

On her show on Tuesday, the TV anchor responded to the accusations against Charlie Rose with her own disappointing story involving the veteran journalist.

Rose did not immediately respond to request for comment from TheWrap.

The move was announced by CBS News President David Rhodes, who called Rose's alleged behavior "extremely disturbing and intolerable".

"It is essential that these women know I hear them and that I deeply apologize for my inappropriate behavior".

"There are striking commonalities in the accounts of the women, each of whom described their interactions with Rose in multiple interviews with The Post", the newspaper points out.

"Charlie does not get a pass here".

Those advances included lewd phone calls, walking around naked in their presence, or groping their breasts, buttocks or genital areas, the women said. Rose's bathroom behavior, which allegedly involved summoning underlings to him as he bathed, became so well-known by the women that they gave it a nickname: "the shower trick".

"This is a moment that demands a frank and honest assessment about where we stand and more generally the safety of women", O'Donnell said. The network has not determined replacement programming beyond that, said a PBS spokeswoman. It wasn't until the Post story that PBS said it knew about Rose's actions.

"In light of yesterday's revelations, PBS has terminated its relationship with Charlie Rose and cancelled distribution of his programs", the public broadcaster said in a statement.

"Despite Charlie's important journalistic contribution to our news division, there is absolutely nothing more important, in this or any organization, than ensuring a safe, professional workplace - a supportive environment where people feel they can do their best work", Rhodes said.

Rose has been one of three hosts of "CBS This Morning" since 2012 and is also a contributor to "60 Minutes".

"It takes a lot of courage for these women to come forward and I think that they should continue to do so", O'Donnell said, kicking off the emotional segment.

Eight women accused Mr Rose of inappropriate behaviour in a report published by The Washington Post. "I am greatly embarrassed", he said.
