Cursed by Osiris, Bungie Cancels Destiny 2 Live Stream Amid Community Outrage

  • Destiny 2 DLC Livestream Cancelled Bungie to Address Fan Anger

Now, wisely, Bungie has announced it's skipping the planned Curse Of Osiris livestream scheduled for tomorrow and will be addressing fan feedback instead.

"We had planned to conduct the final stream prior to the launch of Curse of Osiris to show off some of the weapons and armour the expansion includes", Bungie community boss David "Deej" Dague explained last night via a post on the game's forum. Instead, Bungie said, it will address the overall state of the game tomorrow in a blog post. "Our intention was to keep slower-paced activities as rewarding as high intensity grinding without confusing variations in displayed XP values, but the silent nature of the mechanic betrayed the expectation of transparency that you have for Destiny 2". The issue here is that the information was hidden from the player so that they would continue to think that they were gathering XP at the normal rate. The developer also acknowledges that "the silent nature" of the game's XP progression "betrayed the expectation" that players have when it comes to Destiny 2.

Starting on 5th December, Bungie will be adding improvements and additional content to Destiny 2, including a new "Masterworks" weapon tier with stat trackers, re-rollable stat bonuses, unique item tooltips and more. "We want Destiny to be a game that fits into your life". Though this is a relatively tame problem on the surface, the outrage stemmed from the fact Destiny 2 has its own version of microtransactions - the hot button issue of 2017.

However, after taking the system offline, players noticed that the amount of XP required to fill up the experience bar had doubled.

There is a lot of cautious optimism in the air at the moment, but it's a fragile thing and its future depends on what the studio leads have to say about the game and the direction they plan to take. Hopefully that will start to change after Bungie's announcements this evening.
