Multiple sources said the Marlins have agreed upon the general framework of a Stanton trade with both San Francisco and St. Louis.

As of Sunday afternoon, one source said Stanton had not informed Miami of a decision.

The MLB offseason has been relatively quiet to this point, but that should change during baseball's winter meetings starting on December 9, which is where much of the foundation for offseason trades and other acquisitions take place. Their luxury-tax issues would complicate a potential trade for the slugger. The Los Angeles Dodgers have also been linked with interest in Stanton. Stanton grew up 15 miles from Dodger Stadium, and it's believed he'd prefer to play in his hometown for the National League champs. They can't take on a large portion of the $295 million remaining on Stanton's deal.

Stanton is owed between $25 million and $32 million each of the next 10 seasons.

It was believed the Marlins wouldn't have given either team clearance to speak with Stanton or his agency (Wasserman Group) if deals, or at least frameworks for deals, weren't in place.

Stanton would help the Giants in the home run department as they finished dead last in home runs in 2017.

It's clear Derek Jeter and his new regime in Miami want to cut payroll and trading Stanton is the best way to do that without parting ways with everyone else. He also was MVP runner-up in 2014 when he led the NL with 37 homers while compiling 105 RBIs.
