Apple now sells an unlocked, SIM-free version of the iPhone X

  • Apple iPhone X now available unlocked and SIM-free

Yet even despite the rumored shortages of face-scanning camera tech and OLED displays, Apple has done an admirable job of getting stock back on track after the initial few weeks. "You can do that by purchasing the factory-unlocked, SIM-free model directly from Apple in the USA or Australia, or by purchasing a Verizon Wireless or Sprint unit". If you choose this option, the device will arrive SIM-free, and you'll be able to activate it with any carrier that supports the iPhone.

The prices are the same as what you'll pay from the carriers themselves: $999 for a 64GB model, and $1,149 for a 256GB one. This version gives the freedom of activating the phone at any local or worldwide carrier by simply getting a SIM card from your desired operator. Both versions are now listed on Apple's website as delivered on December 12.

Reports of the iPhone X running in short supply raised questions on when an unlocked iPhone X might be made available, especially among users who didn't want to be tied to a specific telco with a standard, two-year contract. Those of you in Australia can get the same delivery date, again SIM-free, but the fact that the deal has now arrived in the United States as well is significant. Orders placed today are slated to arrive by December 13, according to Apple's website.
