  • Bryan Singer fired from Freddie Mercury biopic

Bryan Singer is no stranger to controversy, and on December 1st Fox chose to halt production of the highly anticipated Queen biopic due to the "unexpected unavailability" of director Bryan Singer. This was a very taxing experience, which ultimately took a serious toll on my own health. Despite that, Singer has remained the director of the upcoming Queen biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody, - until now. While Singer acknowledged creative differences with Malek, he told THR that they worked through them, dismissing the idea that differences between the two had anything to do with his departure from the film. The two had a heated argument which didn't get physical but resulted in Singer throwing something, although the report claims the pair settled their differences and were expected to continue working.

As well as directing, Singer is listed as a co-producer, alongside Queen's Brian May and Roger Taylor, among others.

Rami Malek, as Freddie Mercury, in a scene from "Bohemian Rhapsody". But a Twentieth Century Fox Film spokesperson confirmed Monday that Singer "is no longer the director of Bohemian Rhapsody".

Actor Rami Malek, who stars as Freddie Mercury in the film, reportedly complained to the studio about Singer's unprofessionalism on behalf of the cast.

In addition, Tom Hollander, who plays manager Jim Beach, briefly quit citing Singer's behavior. The film's cinematographer, Thomas Newton Sigel, stepped in as a substitute director during several of Singer's absences. "Bohemian Rhapsody" is now slated for a release date of December 25, 2018. When news broke, it was detailed that the studio fired Singer under the "pay or play" portion of his contract after he failed to arrive on set.

There is now no word who would replace Singer to finish the film.

The source claimed that Singer was terminated because he proved to be unreliable on set and said that the studio expects to have a new director on board in a matter of days.

Also, Singer's production company Bad Hat Harry has been removed entirely from the Fox production offices, following decades of profitable work, especially involving the X-Men franchise, of which Singer had directed four of the entries.
