  • Report: Ravens CB Jimmy Smith Suspended Four Games for PED Violation

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Smith has been suspended four games for violating the league's PED policy, and has withdrawn his appeal.

The Baltimore Sun reported Smith and the team were made aware of the pending suspension last week.

The Ravens later revealed Smith has been nursing a sore left Achilles for much of 2017.

Smith, the Ravens' top player in the secondary despite dealing with an Achilles injury for most of the season, was injured in the second quarter Sunday when he fell to the ground while trying to cover a deep route.

If he attempts to continue to fight it throughout the course of the season, he could possibly run the risk of having to serve that suspension at the start of next season, when he may be healthy, though given the lateness in the season of his Achilles injury, that is no guarantee, either. Second-year running back Kenneth Dixon was suspended for the first four games of the season, but suffered a season-ending meniscus injury before the season began.

He became a full-time starter for the Ravens in his third season, starting all 16 regular-season games and finishing with 58 total tackles, two picks, three forced fumbles and 16 pass defenses. "It's different than it has been before", head coach John Harbaugh said. "It's the way we organize the whole program, to play our best in December and January", Harbaugh said. He's a very instinctive player, so I see him playing a lot in the upcoming games. Now, the Ravens are riding a three-game win streak — their longest of the season — and holding down the final seed in the AFC playoff picture.

Smith has played his entire seven-year career with the Ravens after being their first-round pick in 2011.

"I'm really not well versed on that".
