National Safety Council President Deborah Hersman says the app will contribute to distracted driving, already a factor in a quarter of all vehicle crashes and hurt efforts to stem rising auto fatalities, which grew 5.6 percent to more than 37,000 in the US previous year. He sails through the drive-through - he has to say his name at the speaker so the Dunkin' employees know it's the weird guy who bought his coffee with his vehicle, but GM doesn't show that part - grabs his "my morning coffee, hot coffee", and off he goes, excited to use those 25 seconds he saved by using GM's in-car technology to, I don't know, browse Twitter?

GM (gm) launched a new commerce feature Tuesday that will let owners of more than 2 million vehicles with 4G service order and pay for food, make dinner reservations, reserve a parking space, or pay for gas using the touchscreen inside their auto, truck, or SUV.

While Marketplace can be used while driving, GM has designed it to minimize actions that will distract drivers from the road. "Our goal is to utilize partnerships like this to build Marketplace into the most intuitive and comprehensive in-vehicle commerce platform", said Brian Hoglund, Director, Commercial Experience GCCX. "Leveraging connectivity and our unique data capabilities, we have an opportunity to make every trip more productive and give our customers time back". In addition, he said GM plans to expand integration into its vehicles of music, news and other information services.

It cuts down on distracted driving by only offering a few options at a time, as opposed to an entire menu, Chamorro said. Conversable and General Motors (GM) have partnered to deliver on-demand, commerce capabilities for millions of 4G LTE connected Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac vehicles.

Starbucks isn't the only big-name company that will be featured in GM's Marketplace. "Marketplace gives merchants the ability to more safely engage with drivers and passengers in a meaningful way that provides true value for our customers".

Dunkin' Donuts: The division of Canton, Mass. -based Dunkin Brands Group Inc. allows DD Perks members to preorder and pay onscreen at their preferred pickup location.

- Wingstop, where drivers can re-order favorites and pay ahead.

GM will receive revenue for installing a merchant's application on its dashboard. Participating businesses include Dunkin' Donuts, IHOP, TGI Fridays, Priceline, Shell, and ExxonMobil.

A separate data plan is not required to use GM Marketplace, the company said.
