  • Quentin Tarantino has an idea for a Star Trek movie and J.J. Abrams is assembling a writers room

According to Deadline, the director recently came up with an idea for a Star Trek movie which, after discussing the idea with JJ Abrams, has inspired the assembly of a writers room of scribes at Paramount who will hear Tarantino's idea and begin to put together a movie.

Turning A Classic Episode Into A Movie?

The excitement about this particular project wouldn't be the impact that Trek would have on Tarantino; it's what Tarantino would have on Trek. " Now that he's working on a Star Trek film of his own, it's possible he's aiming to adapt the timeless episode, "The City on the Edge of Forever". You could take some of the great classic Star Trek episodes and just easily expand them to 90 minutes or more and really do some wonderful, awesome stuff.

Chances are he'll end up taking a story credit and producing, and the bigger question would be where this might fit into the universe of Trek - nothing has been said about the concept at this stage, so we don't know if it'll use Abrams rebooted crew or find some other corner to explore. In the case of Tarantino, however, it's hard to think of a writer-director with more of a specific, honed sensibility. During an 2015 interview on the Nerdist podcast, Tarantino spoke favorably about the cast of the new films, which includes Chris Pine as Captain Kirk and Zachary Quinto as Spock.

If the project comes to fruition, it will be the first time that Tarantino - best known for his violent dramas Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs - has worked on a mainstream film franchise.

Tarantino has previously stated his appreciation for the Star Trek franchise, going back to the 1960s television series.
