A German business newspaper is reporting that special counsel Robert Mueller has subpoenaed records from Deutsche Bank as part of his investigation into possible Russian involvement in the US presidential election campaign.

Sekulow was responding to a report from German business newspaper Handelsblatt that Mueller had subpoenaed records from Deutsche Bank as part of his investigation into possible Russian involvement in the USA presidential election campaign. That's according to a copy of Mueller's report obtained by The Associated Press.

Analysts questioned why Mr. Flynn, who was serving as national security advisor, was not fired immediately, if he was believed to be lying about the interactions with Russian Federation, which have plagued the White House and are the subject of federal and congressional investigations.

Deutsche Bank told Bloomberg it "always cooperates with investigating authorities in all countries". "We have confirmed this with the bank and other sources".

During his election campaign, Mr Trump said he would seek to improve ties with Russian President Vladimir Putin, which were strained during former president Barack Obama's administration.

Deutsche Bank for months has rebuffed calls by Democratic lawmakers to provide more transparency over the roughly $300 million Trump owed to the bank for his real estate dealings prior to becoming president.

In May, five Democratic members of the House of Representatives sent a letter to Deutsche Bank CEO John Cryan asking the bank to turn in any records relating to Trump's accounts and any ties to Russian Federation. Mueller incorporated several ongoing investigations within the Justice Department including those of Trump campaign contacts with Russian Federation, former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort's business activities and former national security adviser Michael Flynn. The bank has settled U.S. and United Kingdom investigations into how it helped Russian clients move money out of the country, but a settlement with the U.S. Department of Justice is still outstanding. That figure includes a $170-million loan Trump took out to finish a hotel in Washington.

The German bank is one of the few major lenders that has lent large amounts to Trump in the past decade.

Democratic senators, including Dianne Feinstein, suggested after the Flynn plea that Mueller might be building an obstruction of justice case against Trump. Over the weekend on Twitter, he attacked the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Mueller's team and defended some of Flynn's actions.

Many media outlets included the denial from Trump's attorney in their reports, but the idea of his bank being subpoenaed for his financial records makes for far juicier headlines.
