  • Pakistan allows Kulbhushan's meeting with wife, mother on Dec 25

Kulbhushan Jadhav, now lodged in a Pakistani jail on charges of espionage, has been allowed to meet with his family members from India by the Pakistani government.

The official announcement was made by Swaraj on Friday, who also stated that she had conveyed Pakistan's decision to the mother, Avantika Jadhav.

The Indian government had raised concern over the safety Kulbhushan's family members during their visit to Pakistan and had appealed to the country's authorities to allow a diplomat to accompany them.

"After repeated attempts by the government over the past two years, Pakistan which recently agreed to grant visa to Kulbhushan's wife only is now giving it to his mother as well", he said. Meanwhile, at the weekly news briefing in Islamabad, Pakistan foreign office spokesperson Dr Mohammed Faisal said a diplomat from Indian High Commission in Islamabad will be present in the meeting to be held on December 25. The suspect was said to be an officer of the Indian navy working for the covert agency to destabilize Pakistan.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has granted permission to Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav's wife and mother to meet him on December 25. Jadhav filed an appeal with Pakistan Army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa for clemency, which is still pending. Pakistan has proposed that the meeting take place on December 25 but the Indian government is expected take a final decision on the date after consultations with Mr Jadhav's mother and wife.

Earlier, Pakistan had been repeatedly denied consular access to the Indian prisoner on grounds not applicable to cases pertaining to espionage. However, India maintains that Jadhav was kidnapped from Iran where he had business interests after retiring from the Navy.
