  • England's Ben Duckett stood down after alcohol-related incident in Perth bar

England's Ashes campaign has gone from bad to worse with news that squad player Ben Duckett has been stood down for disciplinary reasons after an incident in a Perth bar. But now Duckett faces a punishment from the England and Wales Cricket Board after becoming the latest player caught up in off-field disorder.

Duckett, who was selected to open the batting in England's two-day tour match against a Cricket Australia XI in Perth, was a late omission from the team.

England are down 2-0 in the Ashes series and the latest bar-room incident has plunged their tour into a fresh crisis as they bid to avoid another humiliating whitewash.

The England side were drinking in the same bar in Perth where Jonny Bairstow headbutted Cameron Bancroft when Duckett dumped his drink over Anderson. I think it is fairly trivial but, in the current climate, it is not acceptable.

Duckett is reported to have been socialising on a night out with a number of his Lions team-mates, meeting member of the Ashes squad who had just enjoyed a quiz night at their hotel. He was once dropped from the England Under 19 team for fitness issues.

"I'm not sure exactly what more I can say, so I'm sure there will be some stern words from above".

Duckett, who has featured for the England Lions in Australia this winter, was on a night out in Perth on Thursday night with his teammates as well as some of the England Test players, following the relaxation of a team curfew by European Central Bank director Andrew Strauss the same day.

"I need to coach the team and you end up spending most of the time up in front of the cameras trying to explain this and behaviour that the boys have already been warned about".

Ben Stokes remains suspended by the European Central Bank until the outcome of a police investigation into his involvement in an altercation earlier this year.

"Everybody has been warned about how even small things can be blown out of all proportion", he said, noting he was disappointed and fed up.

Speaking back in November, he said: "We need to sharpen up our act".

"I'm sure they'll be able to get on with it (and focus on the third Test that starts on Thursday)".

Star all-rounder Ben Stokes is already suspended from the tour after he became involved in an incident outside a Bristol nightclub in September that led to police investigations, although he is now playing domestic cricket in New Zealand.
