  • A little snow fell overnight in Wyandotte County

High pressure will be over the area on Monday through Wednesday.

The normal high for Christmas in Chicago is 32 degrees, according to the weather service, though the warmest Christmas Day temperature on record is 64 degrees, set in 1982.

The Weather Service was predicting up to two inches of snow in the hardest hit areas through 10 p.m. Sunday night. "You don't need snow to feel Christmas-y!" Winds gusting as high as 50 miles per hour will cause areas of blowing and drifting snow. Slow down and use caution while driving.

Snow is on its way for a white Christmas.

Temperatures are not expected to get above freezing at most locations this week, according to the weather service.

In Wyoming County, a lake effect snow warning is in effect through 6 p.m. Wednesday. The heavy snow will fall in relatively narrow bands.

Be prepared for reduced visibilities at times. Winter weather advisories have been issued for our area until 1 AM. A west northwest wind of 8 to 13 miles per hour may gust as high as 23 miles per hour.

A number of reported snowfall totals came in early on Christmas morning - Wallkill had 4.3 inches of 6:12 a.m.; Red Hook had 4 inches as of 7 a.m.; Kingston had 4 inches as of 7 a.m.; and Poughkeepsie had 2 inches as of 7 a.m.

Last year, a few of those inches - 3, in fact - rested on the grounds of the region as families made the annual trek to family gatherings and unwrapped presents throughout the morning.

That's known to happen.
