Davis, 32, notched 32 saves with a 2.30 ERA with the Chicago Cubs in 2017. Acquired from the Kansas City Royals last offseason in a trade for outfielder Jorge Soler, Davis had an earned run average of 2.30 and a WHIP of 1.142 over 59 games and 58.2 innings pitched.

Davis will also reportedly be in line for a $14 million vesting option for the 2021 season.

Davis's salary will be among the highest ever paid annually to a relief pitcher and reflects the Rockies' desire to get back to the postseason.

Over nine Major League Baseball seasons, primarily with the Tampa Bay Rays and the Kansas City Royals, he has 79 saves. With a deal that's essentially four years and $66 million, Davis sets up other relievers for a big payday.

Holland and Davis were teammates on the 2015 Royals team that won the World Series.

Davis did show some signs of decline in his age 31 season in 2017, seeing a huge uptick in walks (11.6 walk percentage) and posting the lowest fastball velocity since he became a full-time reliever (94.3 mph).

The fact that Davis ended up signing with the Rockies is a bit of a surprise. Holland is now the top relief pitcher available and should ultimately garner a contract worth nearly as much as the one Davis got.

Davis is the third significant free agent bullpen signing this winter for the Rockies, who previously added Bryan Shaw and Jake McGee on three year, $27 million contracts.

That all being said, while Davis could be very much touch-and-go in Colorado, he still gives the Rockies the best chance at getting back to the playoffs and building upon being the second NL Wild Card team last season.
