We have come so far in the world of technology and yet time travel is still a thing of fantasy.

Then, the eight-hour flight landed at its destination of Honolulu, Hawaii at 10:16 a.m. local time on December 31, 2017.

The commercial flight departed Auckland, New Zealand at 12:05 a.m. local time on January 1, 2018 - just five minutes into the new year - after a 10-minute delay. The the eight-hour flight landed in Honolulu at 10:16 am on December 31st 2017.

It's not so complicated and apparently very common.

Auckland, New Zealand, is just west of the International Date Line, while Honolulu is one of the furthest destinations to the east of the Date Line, so even though the two destinations are only an 8.5-hour flight away, they're actually 23 time zones apart.

It's no time travel but simply the presence of the worldwide date line that the flight crossed while flying towards its destination. But it was thanks to a 10-minute delay that this feat of technical time-travel was made possible, reveals Mashable.

The Journalist took to his twitter handle and said, "Because of an unexpected delay, Hawaiian Airlines flight 446 took off in 2018 and will land in 2017".

It then was due to arrive mid-morning on December 31 in Honolulu.

Therefore, the passengers onboard the Airbus A330 got to enjoy their New Year twice - simply by flying to a different country.
