North Korea may have accidentally hit one of its own cities with a ballistic missile previous year.
The report states that on April 28, 2017 Kim Jong Un's regime launched a single Hwasong-12/KN17 intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM).
The source said that within a minute of being in the air, the missile's first stage engines failed and caused it to crash back down to the ground.
Just as a thaw appears to be emerging between the two feuding Korean governments, news has come about a missile test misfire by Pyongyang in April 2017 - which allegedly struck a city in central North Korea.
The Daily Mail noted that the city of Tokchon is inhabited by about 200,000 people.
Notably, the satellite images from Google Earth taken after the crash show a clear area.
The rocket reportedly crashed into the city of Tokchon and seriously damaged industrial or agricultural buildings.
Experts warn that North Korea's success with missile tests over the past two years is due largely to Kim Jong Un's uncharacteristically cool acceptance of failure.
After all, it's North Korea, where the media is state-controlled. It was meant to soar east and splash into the Sea of Japan, where most missiles tested in Pyongyang's ongoing nuclear and military build-up end up.
The September 2017 ICBM test marked its sixth ever successful nuclear missile launch, and North Korea claimed the country also has a Hydrogen bomb it can place on an intercontinental ballistic missile.
On April 28, it was third test of Hwasong-12.
"It's impossible to verify if the incident caused any loss of life and, given the time of day the test occurred and the location of the impact, it may be likely that few, if any, casualties resulted from the incident".
However, the cold relationship between South Korea and the North showed signs of thawing in the beginning of 2018.
North Korea launched an ICBM over Japan into the Pacific Ocean on September 14, and then again on November 29 of past year.
