  • Arsene Wenger has been charged with misconduct by the FA

With the Gunners in cup action for their next two fixtures, the disruption to their league schedule will be minimal even with a three game ban.

No wonder Wenger was in full deflection mode after dropping yet more points in a 2-2 draw with Chelsea on Wednesday.

The new season appeared to be shaping up into a two-horse race between the Manchester clubs, but as Manchester United started to stutter in the autumn, Manchester City just kept on going, and an 18-match winning streak means they have nearly wrapped up the 2017/18 title already.

Rather than concentrating post-match comments on acclaiming his team's resolve - Hector Bellerin grabbed an equalizer in the second minute of stoppage time - Wenger unleashed on referees, the media and the packed festive schedule all rivals have had to contend with.

Wenger expressed his angered at referee Mike Dean when Arsenal were held to a 1-1 draw at West Brom, who were awarded a penalty for handball.

"We don't need a replay, it was a penalty", he told Sky Sports after the game. Bellerin's later equalizer wiped out Marcos Alonso's strike.

"I think we should won this game because of the chances we had".

Responding directly to the FA charge, he said: 'Yes I have been asked [to respond] and I maintain what I said in the press conference, 100%.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has insisted that he does not regret criticising Premier League officials after being asked to explain his comments by the Football Association.

"It was non-stop football, running up and down", said Bellerin.
