Jehangir said a total of eleven people were killed in the avalanche.

According to local sources three people along with other six travelling in a passenger vehicle were missing as avalanche hits the road.

However, rescue teams of police and Army joined by locals have rescued a child and an elderly person and shifted them to hospital.

Officials said that the Rashid is now undergoing treatment at District Hospital Kupwara while Bhat has been shifted to SKIMS Soura for specialized treatment. "His body has been recovered while rescue operation to locate the eight missing people continued", the official added. A Beacon officer's body was found on Friday evening, he said. Heavy and continuous snowfall in the area though had made it hard for local teams to locate the vehicle and its passengers.

In a first avalanche, two beacon officials came under a snow avalanche adjacent to Sadhna top. An official statement said that she has directed the Kupwara district administration to ensure all possible medical assistance to those injured in the accident.
