  • Hunt Resumes for Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 Wreckage

The Malaysian government on Saturday approved resuming the search for MH370, the Malaysia Airlines flight with 239 people on board that disappeared en route to Beijing from Kuala Lumpur in March 2014, AP reported.

"Now we have approached Australia and China, and we are working together to resume the search for MH370", he said.

Ocean Infinity said in a statement that it dispatched a search vessel earlier this week from the South African port of Durban to take advantage of favorable weather around "the vicinity of the possible search zone".

Liow added the contract would be finalized by next week.

Malaysia approved a new attempt to find the wreckage of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, the country's government announced Saturday, almost four years after the plane's disappearance sparked one of aviation's biggest mysteries, NBC News reported.

In mid-January Malaysia, Australia and China suspended the search, unsuccessfully carried out in an area of 120,000 square kilometers, but Kuala Lumpur authorized private companies to continue operations.

Norwegian research vessel Seabed Constructor, leased by Ocean Infinity for the search, set off from South Africa this month for the southern Indian Ocean, where MH370 is believed to have disappeared.

The source, who declined to be identified, said that the firm had made a decision to send the Seabed Constructor, a Norwegian research vessel, to the southern Indian Ocean so that it was ready to start searching in a window of good weather expected in January and February.

But a report from the Australian Transport Safety Board released later in the year pointed to a new area where the plane could be found.

Only three confirmed fragments of MH370 have been found, all of them on western Indian Ocean shores, including a two-metre wing part known as a flaperon.
