Aguero struck twice in the space of two minutes to spark a comeback that saw City recover from a goal down to power into the fourth round with a 4-1 win at the Etihad Stadium.

City, who last tasted defeat in domestic competition in their FA Cup semi-final against Arsenal in April, were level in the 56th minute when Aguero fired home from Ilkay Gundogan's pass. He complained that referee Graham Scott did not blow his whistle to signal when the free-kick was to be taken when Ashley Westwood was asking him to do so. "I said: 'Leave the referees".

"I had some eye contact with Sergio".

"I'm sorry, I apologise, I didn't want to lose control", Guardiola said. I believe everybody is allowed to be passionate. "We just reacted quicker than our opponents". Sergio Aguero is second on the team with thirteen league goals. I think they made the first contacts but I don't know if it is close. They make wonderful results. "We played against Burnley in a tough cup tie".

Speaking at a press conference, Guardiola said, "My commitment to the first year, this one and the next one, there is no doubts about that".

City's performance will ensure talk of a quadruple bid grows louder.

Despite having most of the possession, they lacked their usual zip and sparkle without Kevin De Bruyne and the only first-half scares for Pope were a free-kick from Gundogan on the edge of the box that hit Burnley's wall and a shot from Oleksandr Zinchenko that skimmed the roof of the net.

David Silva then set up a third goal for Leroy Sane before substitute Bernardo Silva wrapped up the scoring.

"I'm so happy", said Guardiola. Its hard to see how Bristol City will be able to cope with this much attacking talent. "Then he was sure we were going to go through this round and, as most of the time, he was right".

The goal from Aguero broke the dam wall as only 93 seconds later the Clarets were behind on the scoreline before conceding another two late on, a series of events which Dyche was not impressed with.

He said: "We're at the end of our squad at the moment with injuries but, with the mentality today, you'd never have smelt that".

Guardiola revealed that Silva was due to return to Valencia immediately after the game and continue to "commute" between Spain and England while his son receives treatment.
