  • Female Saudi supporters of Al Ahli queue at an entrance for families and women at the King Abdullah Sports City

A Saudi private company on Thursday opened the first auto showroom for women only just five months before a decision allowing females to drive takes effect. The women however had to enter through designated turnstiles for women and families. On Friday, Al-Ahli trounced Al-Batin 5-0 in the Premier League match, according to the Saudi Gazette.

"Family sections" are ubiquitous across the kingdom, allowing married couples, direct relatives and sometimes groups of friends to sit together, isolated from male-only tables at restaurants and in waiting areas at banks and hospitals.

"I am very proud to be a witness of this massive change".

The Saudi government said last week women would be allowed to attend a second match on Saturday and a third next Thursday.

"I definitely think we will come back", she said.

Some people used the hashtag online to write that women should stay at home to focus on children and preserving their faith, and not at a stadium packed with males.

But these rules have begun to change under King Salman, who became the Saudi monarch in 2015, and are driven by his son, Mohammed bin Salman, 32, the country's crown prince.

There are still many things women are unable to do without permission, such as applying for passports, travelling overseas, opening a bank account and starting certain businesses. The company plans to open more automobiles showrooms for women in the oil-rich kingdom.

It was a historic day, as women in Saudi Arabia attended a football match for the first time, as part of reforms spearheaded by the kingdom's crown prince.

Over the years, though, there have been some exceptions for foreign women.

Saudi authorities announced on October 30, lifting the ban on women entering sports stadiums, allowing them to attend events in three stadiums as of 2018.
