Four of Kenya's popular TV channels were switched off last week for attempting to broadcast the "inauguration" of opposition leader Raila Odinga as the "people's president".

It is not clears what law the government used to eject him from Kenya as the Constitution guarantees him citizenship since he is Kenyan by birth.

Earlier Miguna's lawyers had engaged the prosecution had faced-off at the Milimani Law Courts after the Inspector General of Police and Directorate of Criminal Investigations failed to appear in court and present Miguna as directed.

Miguna has been in police custody since Friday morning when he was arrested dramatically from his Runda house, which was extensively damaged. It was seen as an example of how Kenya's rule of law actually held sway. But past year also produced a heavy body count ( during the protracted election period and was found murdered), the deputy Supreme Court judge's driver was shot at and injured, and several Supreme Court on postponement of the October polls.

He was arraigned in a court in Kajiado on Tuesday but did not plead to charges preferred against him.

While the court in Kajiado ordered that he be presented before Justice Kimaru's court at Milimani, Mr Miguna was not produced in the court and his lawyers stayed late within the court's premises waiting for his release.

However, high court judge Judge Luka Kimaru has directed the DPP to appear before court this afternoon to confirm whether Miguna has been charged.

Demonstrators took to the streets in the west, the heartland of support for Odinga, who maintains he was the victor of an election that returned President Uhuru Kenyatta to power past year.

Hours before the event, the Kenyan communication authority cut signals of several television and radio channels including Citizen media, NTV and KTN who planned on covering the swearing-in.
