  • King Announces Lobster Emoji Officially Coming Soon

Take a look at all of the new emojis here.

Maine's state crustacean will soon be one of the "emoji" pictograms available for electronic messaging.

With the release of 157 new emoji's the mango will appear as a part of Unicode's new update.

The Unicode Consortium launched in 1988 with a mission to create worldwide standards for software and data. Other notable new emoji include a hot face (to enhance the often-abused flushed face), a woozy face for when you feel like making your intentions particularly vague, and male and female superheroes.

Angus King says the emoji is long-overdue and a cause for celebration for lobster lovers.

Device manufacturers, technology companies and social networks should adopt the new Unicode 11.0 update a few months after its June 2018 debut, so there's plenty of time to get your submissions in for 2019's emoji release. More than 5,400 people added their signatures.

"Not only is the lobster of substantial cultural relevance", he argued, but according to online data, it also garners public interest that is at least equal to that of the crab, which already has its own emoji.
