Metro Detroit's weather for the weekend looks like it will be warmer with just a bit of rain possible, according to the National Weather Service.

Expect more showers and more thunderstorms Saturday afternoon and evening.

Light rain is possible Saturday, mainly after 1 p.m., but then a period of potentially moderate to heavy rainfall will occur Saturday night into Sunday morning. The break from the rain is short-lived as more showers are likely on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

The Ohio River flooded last weekend impacting Wheeling Island and locations down river including Parkersburg, Point Pleasant and Huntington. Here is a forecast of river flood stages thru Tuesday, March 6, 2018.

The National Weather Service in Paducah is estimating a total of 7-8 inches by week's end, and motorists are reminded to use caution when they encounter high water over roads. The N.W.S. predicts the river will continue rising to near 16 feet mark by early Monday morning. This could cause some flooding on smaller streams and creeks and the river will be near "Action Stage" at Harrisburg and Marietta. The weather service issued winter weather advisories for parts of Oklahoma, Kansas, North Dakota, Missouri, Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin. The heaviest rain will come with round two.

The flooding claimed at least three lives earlier in the week, including a one-year-old girl who died when she wandered into standing water in a backyard in Central Michigan, according to local media. Peotone Fire Protection District Deputy Chief Bruce Boyle said the woman apparently lost control of her vehicle on southbound Illinois Route 45 and ended up in a rain-filed ditch. Less than half the homes in high risk areas in Louisiana have flood insurance.
