Claude Puel Admits Leicester City Didn't Do Enough To Beat Stoke City

Butland's mistake was made all the more embarrassing by the presence of former England, Leicester and Stoke hero Peter Shilton in the stands although manager Paul Lambert refused to blame his keeper for the dropped point.

Butland, who is expected to be among those contending for England's first-choice goalkeeper position heading into this year's World Cup in Russian Federation, stood with his head in his hands, as the two sides played out a 1-1 draw following his mistake. "Anybody coming to our games in the last few weeks would see Stoke City as a good side".

Shaqiri, on the other hand, made sure that his flourish mattered.

Xherdan Shaqiri's first-half goal, his third in three consecutive Premier League matches, was close to ending Stoke's eight-game run without a win. The ball was stolen off Wilfred Ndidi as Joe Allen picked out the Swiss playmaker on the edge of the box, and he did the rest with one touch to set himself up before firing into the bottom corner.

The game became a little scrappy as the first half wore on, with both teams struggled to keep the ball, and one such instance allowed Stoke to strike two minutes before half-time.

Xherdan Shaqiri celebrates after his opener. The Potters haven't won on the road since a 1-0 win at Watford in October and haven't even a registered a point since a 2-2 draw with Brighton in November.

Having weathered the storm early on in the game, the Potters then made life tough for Leicester City, dealing with the aerial balls easily, and even successfully stopping Riyad Mahrez and Jamie Vardy.

Or maybe not. The hosts could have fallen further behind in the 54th minute when the ever-dynamic Allen beat Matty James to a shanked clearance by Schmeichel.

The Welsh man teed up Shaqiri who fired in a first time shot past Kasper Schmiechel.

This then, opens the door for Leicester City to collect the victory. But it still took a blunder by Butland to bring them level.

All Butland could do was get up and get better. Harry Maguire smashed a shot against the outside of the post in the ensuing chaos.

After substitute Charlie Adam's very bad header sent Mahrez through, Butland made another vital save to protect Stoke's point after Kurt Zouma's block deflected the winger's effort, with James heading against the post in a frantic finale.
