Ankara kills 2222 terrorists in Afrin operation

Muslim's arrest comes amidst continuing Turkish aggression against Afrin in Northern Syria, where Turkey launched air strikes and ground attacks a little over a month ago in a bid to remove the Kurdish YPG (People's Defence Units), which it also classes as terrorists.

Turkey considers the PYD a terrorist group associated with outlawed Kurdish rebels fighting within the country's borders.

In strongly worded statements to two North Atlantic Treaty Organisation allies, Turkey's foreign ministry spokesman said a US State Department appeal that Turkey "go back and read" the ceasefire resolution was unfounded, and he also denied that Paris had told Ankara that the truce also applied to its Afrin campaign.

Turkey described the court ruling as political and against worldwide law. Still, this and a lot of casualties are all the Afrin invasion have accomplished yet, and Turkey's determination to keep media reports on the war upbeat obliges them to present this as something useful.

Saleh Muslim, aged 67, was arrested last Saturday in Prague under an Interpol order handled by Turkey.

"It is obvious support for a terrorist organization and will negatively impact Czech-Turkish relations".

Turkey has embarked on an offensive against Kurdish forces in the area of Afrin, close to the Turkish border. It sees the PYD and its associated militia, the YPG, as terrorists. At the time, around 1,000 YPG fighters wounded in the battle against IS were treated in state-run Turkish hospitals. Ankara believes the armed group is responsible for a series of terrorist attacks in Turkey. Muslim was added to the list of wanted suspects in the prosecution's indictment a year later.

When asked by reporters on Tuesday if Turkey is "violating the United Nations cease-fire" in Syria, U.S. State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert said that she would "encourage Turkey to go back and read the United Nations resolution".

The YPG is the Syrian branch of the PKK, which for over three decades has waged a bloody campaign against the Turkish state and is banned by Turkey, the USA and the European Union as a terror group.

Muslim told Al-Monitor that he had offered to mediate between Turkey and the PKK when he still had contact with Turkish officials. "They don't have the right to make such claims against me, accusations against me", said Muslim.
