Rams trading LB Ogletree to Giants

  • Rams linebacker Alec Ogletree is headed to the Giants via trade reports said

K.C. declined and Ogletree ended up getting shipped to the New York Giants for two draft picks.

The trade can not be officially announced until March 14, when the league year begins.

Ogletree was a first-round pick out of Georgia in 2013 and started all but one game he appeared in for the Rams since.

Giants general manager Dave Gettleman said at the NFL Combine that it is hard to evaluate college linebackers because of the way the game has changed at that level. ESPN first reported the deal.

Ogletree has 501 combined tackles over five seasons.

He had 95 tackles and two sacks last season while moving into coordinator Wade Phillips' 3-4 defensive scheme.

The Rams made the playoffs past year for the first time since 2004, finishing the regular season at 11-5.

Ogletree has been durable and consistent but his $10 million cap hit is likely the driving force behind the Rams decision to send him off to Big Blue.

Ogletree also was a key player in the Rams' spotty run defense.

The Rams agreed last month to acquire cornerback Marcus Peters in a trade with Kansas City, and Los Angeles also used its franchise tag on safety Lamarcus Joyner.

In his fifth National Football League season, Ogletree accounted for 63 tackles, 2 sacks, 10 pass breakups and 1 interception this past year.
