Man City will be a good move for any player - Mahrez

  • Mahrez regrets his handling of failed Man City move

"Manchester City is a good move for everyone but it is the past".

He got into big trouble with the Foxes this January, when the Midlands club refused him a move to Manchester City.

The problem here, as always, will be the cost of the operation, as Roma are limited financially compared to the likes of Manchester City, yet there's some (misplaced?) optimism from Corriere that this season might work in their favour.

'Like I said, it was hard, I spoke with the players, I spoke with manager, spoke with everyone, everyone was okay, everyone was good'.

But the player has hit back at the assumptions made about his absence, and insists the club were always aware of his whereabouts. "At the moment I'm a Leicester player", Mahrez told Sky Sports.

"It was hard but I spoke with the players, I spoke with the manager, I spoke with everyone".

Mahrez said he regretted the way he had handled the situation but had thought it was the best thing to do at the time.

Mahrez returned to action in Leicester's 5-1 defeat to Pep Guardiola's side on February 10 and has played in all three matches since, including the 1-1 draw with Bournemouth last weekend, in which he scored a dramatic late free-kick. If we start talking about this, it's like coming back to this transfer window, and now I'm looking forward and trying to give my best for the team.

"As my time as a football player comes to an end I would like to say few words. We are very far away from the transfer window".

"I am not saying I am going to leave or going to go".

"To be honest the club handled it very good as well".

A post appeared on Mahrez's official Facebook page claiming the winger will retire from playing due to injury.

He said: "I wasn't bothered". "Like I said, we moved on and now it's the past. I think everyone knew it had been hacked".
