  • Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has ordered his players to go back to basics

Henrikh Mkhitaryan drove Arsenal into a 15th-minute lead with his first goal for the club, and a shellshocked Milan fell further behind before half-time as Aaron Ramsey waltzed through to score.

"Arsenal are in a very hard period, but are a great team, but we made too many mistakes", said Gattuso.

"I liked the atmosphere after the game, as the lads were disappointed and angry, eager to get going in training", said Gattuso in his Press conference.

Jack Wilshere admits Arsenal's stars hadn't done enough to ease the pressure on Arsene Wenger before they finally took the strain off their beleaguered boss by beating AC Milan.

Continental success is now the only priority and it is encouraging that a second-leg blowout against Ostersunds aside, Arsenal have looked quite at home in the Europa League.

Wenger would love a similar run in this competition as all hopes of returning to the Champions League through the Premier League have all-but ended as Arsenal sit 13 points off the top four.

Arsenal will face Watford at Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

"I think he's definitely gone a season too far and I do wish that previous year he had walked away as now it just feels like the same story as 12 months ago, with everyone just repeating what they said back then, perhaps with more urgency now". He caused Milan right-back Davide Calabria all kinds of problems in the first half and it was no surprise when he netted the opener.

"There are some good teams left in it but we're confident in ourselves", said Wilshere. "You want to make 30 million people happy and that is what I care about". They can come, want to play and want to win the game.

'I'm just unhappy that we lose the games - I want to win and my whole life is guided towards that and I want to win with style so it's very ambitious so when we don't do it I'm suffering like everybody else. This Watford team is playing well and they are well balanced all over the park. We know we haven't been good enough.

"I don't like to speak about what people have said, I am just focused on the next game and be polite with the other team's coaches and players".

"All I can tell you is that we are no closer to sorting anything out".

His future is, of course, still the hot topic of debate, but it is nice to see him at least get a few days off of the criticism before Sunday's game against Watford.
