Musk showed up for an unannounced talk with "Westworld" co-creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy to discuss, well, space travel. Musk called AI a "very serious danger to the public", one that keeps him up at night.

The short film may have been a different angle for the Westworld team, but they showcased their ability to create an eclectic film portraying the time, effort and process of the Falcon Heavy launch as if we were involved ourselves - and let's face it, we wish we were. "We're quite close to the cutting edge in AI and it scares the hell out of me", he said.

In the span of six to nine months, AlphaGo went from being unable to beat a reasonably good Go player, to then beating a string of current and former world champions. Echoing a previous interview with Y Combinator, Musk said figuring out AI is the single most important thing for humans.

Elon Musk wants to save humanity. "I think that once we build it, we'll have a point of proof".

In response to those who have dismissed his doomsay concerns, Musk had this to say: "Mark my words, AI is far more unsafe than nukes".

"The biggest thing that would be helpful is just general support and encouragement and goodwill", Musk said. "We did it for you". It was getting me down'.

"I think that's the best outcome - I hope so, if anyone's got better ideas, I'd love to hear it". Musk's been known to express concerns that AI could bring about the next World War and Sunday's Q&A was no different.

Elon Musk, the founder and CEO of SpaceX, says the company is planning to launch a spacecraft to Mars and return it to Earth as soon as early 2019.

Musk predicted that, if SpaceX achieves its goal of laying the groundwork for a future human colony on Mars, it will prompt a wave of other private enterprises entering the space race.

That is, in part, what his quest to establish bases on the moon and Mars is about.

Elon Musk is unquestionably the most interesting businessman in Silicon Valley - arguably the world - thanks to his nearly single-handed reignition of the space race.

"Last century we had two massive world wars, three if you count the Cold War, I think it's unlikely that we'll never have a world war again. this has been our pattern in the past".
