  • Vols know UK will be “hungry to beat us”

For the first time since 1999, Tennessee swept Kentucky in basketball during the regular season. The Vols fell in the SEC tournament championship game to Kentucky 77-72 on Sunday. But Kentucky made a big defensive stop up three with less than a minute to play and finished off the win at the free throw line. The Volunteers won their opening tournament game over Mississippi State, and they continued their recent hot streak against sixth-seeded Arkansas (23-11) - winning their sixth straight and for the 13th time in their last 15 games.

During their last five games, the Volunteers have scored an average of 67.8 points per game (6.2 below their season average) and allowed an average of 59.2 points per game (6.9 below their season average). He had seven rebounds and three assists.

Kevin Knox wasn't bad, either. Grant Williams finished with a double-double, notching 10 points and 11 boards. The Wildcats are 231-5 under Calipari when leading by at least 10 points during a game.

Trailing 62-61, Kentucky got a foul shot from Knox, then two huge offensive rebound baskets - a Wenyen Gabriel putback after Knox missed the second free throw, then Sacha Killeya-Jones dunked a missed 3-pointer by Gabriel. He had two points but it came on a monster putback follow dunk when he just parted the Tennessee defense. But Killeya-Jones dunked the rebound to give United Kingdom a 66-62 lead going into the final three-plus minutes. More importantly, he did not have a turnover. Again the stoppage of play changed the game. So proud of him. They said the medical staff were concerned about the back of Weatherspoon's head and his neck, but that he was blinking, responding, shaking and squeezing someone's hand.

Kentucky continued its intense effort that started with the win over Georgia Friday when it held the Bulldogs to 28 percent shooting.

United Kingdom is now 167-14 under Calipari when keeping the opponent under 40 percent from the field.

It was said over and over throughout the Tennessee locker room: "It's a game of runs". Sitting at 17-9, some thought this team might be headed for the NCAA bubble. In 18 minutes of first half play, Schofield scored 17 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. "It hurts to know that things we were preaching, the things we were doing so well ended up killing us". That win marked their fifth in a row for a team entering March Madness firing on all cylinders. "You just don't know who is going to step up any night". Tennessee will likely be a 3-seed and have a great possibility of playing in Nashville.

Before picking either side, you need to read what SportsLine college hoops expert Josh Nagel, who has put together an impressive 9-3 run picking college basketball games against the spread, has to say. "I've been watching them".
