Supervisory organs are listed together with administrative, judicial and procuratorial organs of the State, all of which are created by the people's congresses to which they are responsible and by which they are supervised.

China passed a historic constitutional amendment on Sunday formally removing term limits to enable President Xi to stay on as the Chinese president beyond 2023.

China approves an amendment to abolish presidential term limits.

"You also have the situation that he already ended the de facto immunity of people who have served in the politburo standing committee, so nobody can be sure in retirement they are untouchable and the same applies to their families".

The proposal to amend the constitution was officially made in February by the Communist Party, although rumours of its intention had been before then.

This despite the fact that discussion of the topic has been banned on social media and the government has taken swift measures to silence even the smallest amount of discontent. The analysts say Xi's second term, which has just begun, is likely to be different from the first one because he now enjoys more power.

"The current totalitarian framework based on military conquests and political crackdown is unacceptable, no matter what its fake constitution says about Xi's unelected presidency". "It is a successful arrangement that we [the party] have explored and developed over a long period of time".

Beijing has said lifting the term limits is about protecting the authority of the party with Xi at its center.

Li Datong, a former editor of the state-run China Youth Daily newspaper and one of the few voices of open opposition told the broadcaster: "The top leader's term limits are the biggest common denominator shared by all political forces in China". Families from all walks of life suffered, including the family of Xi Jinping. It is amply clear that Xi will continue to hold all three positions, i.e., President, General Secretary, and Chairman CMC, beyond 2022, and spread his political relic within the Party, and, in the Party's unceasing control over the PLA.

There have also been rumblings of dissent outside the upper echelons of the party. It will be similar to what happened with Mao's Cultural Revolution, which was put in place from 1966 to 1976.

China's Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, or CCDI, which has great latitude to investigate Communist Party members, has similarly been accused of acting with impunity, including through its use of extra-legal detention powers to subject people to extended sleep deprivation and other forms of psychological pressure. "There will be no turmoil or anything of the like, things will be stable".

"By posting those bills, I want to impress on them that there is a significant change occurring in China", Mr Wu said.

The slide toward one-man rule under Xi has fueled concern that Beijing is eroding efforts to guard against the excesses of autocratic leadership and make economic regulation more stable and predictable.

The NPC also endorsed another draft constitutional amendment to enshrine Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era in the fundamental law. While the title of "core" leader puts Xi on par with Mao Zedong and Deng Xiaoping, the litmus test for Xi would be ensuring economic stability throughout China and prevail through the economic muddle, given that China's unsteady economic growth rate is becoming progressively hard to predict with precision.
