  • Justin Turner suffered a broken wrist on Monday

Turner broke his left wrist Monday night when he was hit by a pitch in the Dodgers 3-1 win over the Oakland A's.

Turner was struck by a pitch from right-hander Kendall Graveman in the first inning. Turner grunted and winced as he jogged away from the plate toward the dugout, his hand hanging limp at his side. He will be sidelined beyond Opening Day, and general manager Farhan Zaidi said Turner's type of injury is "usually on the order of weeks" but won't necessitate trading for a replacement. Currently, manager Dave Roberts plans on sliding starting 2nd baseman Logan Forsyth into Turner's 3rd base corner while platooning veteran Chase Utley and Enrique Hernandez at the keystone.

Turner said later Monday night that he had obviously hope that the x-rays would come back negative, but instead revealed a non-displaced fracture in his wrist. The 19 times he was hit by a pitch past year topped the Dodgers and was third in Major League Baseball. Turner says he'll visit the doctor again Tuesday to hopefully learn more.

Turner said he would now just have to be patient and see how things go.

They also could try and use either Chris Tayler, who filled in at shortstop for Corey Seager against the Cubs during the NLCS last October or even move backup catcher Austin Barnes to 2nd, who's played some games there last season.

He spent almost all of last season batting third for the Dodgers, collecting 21 home runs and 71 RBIs along the way.
