Earth Hour takes place at 8.30pm United Kingdom time on Saturday, with landmarks including Tower Bridge, Brighton Pier, and Cardiff Castle, along with millions of people, turning off the lights to mark the moment.

For the second consecutive year, Samsung Electronics joins the Global Earth Hour, a campaign organized globally by the Worldwide Fund for Nature (WWF) as a manifest of their commitment to environmental preservation.

A performance by acappella group Just Vocal Band will be held in the main lobby of The Westin Taipei to attract guests to congregate in the area, ensuring the lights are off in their rooms.

With this in mind, the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) want everyone to turn their lights off and put all electronic devices away for an hour starting at 8:30pm on Saturday night as part of their Earth Hour campaign.

Earth Hour, which started in 2007, has been described as the "largest grassroots movement for climate change" by the organisers, according to global news agency AFP. That's only 15% of the energy savings recorded in the first event in 2008.

India observed the Earth Hour 2018 on Saturday as part of which various important government buildings and historical monuments dimmed their lights for an entire hour.

In Quezon City, the lights of the QC Memorial Shrine and dancing fountain were temporarily turned off for the annual event. "Reducing our energy use is an important step toward a better planet, but it's never been the goal of the 60-minute Earth Hour".

Beginning in Sydney in 2007, Earth Hour has spread to more than 180 countries, with tens of millions of people joining in, from turning off the porch lights to dimming the Opera House.

The initiative is being replicated in many countries around the world as a symbolic action to call attention to the need for people to change their behaviour and defend the planet.

National capital city, Delhi will join a billion people across the globe to observe Earth Hour on March 24.
