  • The suspect in the officer-involved shooting was identified as James Decoursey Fox Nashville reported citing Christian County Emergency Management

KSP Post 2 said KSP was notified by Tennessee law enforcement that James K. DeCoursey was located in Clarksville, Tennessee, where he had a brief encounter with law enforcement.

He was shot and died from his injuries early Friday morning.

Hopkinsville Police Chief Clayton Sumner told reporters Thursday night, "I just want to ask everybody for their thoughts and prayers for the family".

DeCoursey fatally shot Meacham at around 5:10 p.m. and fled the scene on foot before stealing a 1997 white pickup truck, according to police. Meacham was taken to Jennie Stuart Medical Center immediately after the incident where he was pronounced dead.

The suspect, who Kentucky State Police identified as James Kenneth Decoursey, 34 of Hopkinsville, was apparently pretending to be a police officer, when he allegedly shot the Hopkinsville Police Department officer. He served with the Hopkinsville Police Department for 11 months.

The Kentucky New Era also reported that Decoursey was killed near a Cracker Barrel in Clarksville, though it's not clear whether he was shot by the Clarksville Police Department or the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office. He was a sheriff's deputy for 12-13 years before joining the Hopkinsville force.
