  • Apple's New iPad Scores Two Out Of Ten For Repairability

A Bloomberg report from well-connected Mark Guttman says users would be able to control the iPhone by moving their fingers in close proximity to the screen. Meanwhile, future displays could curve inward gradually from top to bottom.

The technology may not be ready for consumers for at least two years, if Apple chooses to go forward with it, the report screen said.

We're still combing through the release notes to see what new features are being introduced, but there are already some good guesses about why Apple might be following up with iOS 11.4 beta 1 so soon after releasing iOS 11.3. The only one that has a slight curvature is the iPhone X. It is rumored to be working on iPhones with curved screens and controls that work with just the wag of a finger. Apple is also working on a new type of MicroLED screen but this technology is even further away at three to five years.

Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Apple is preparing something new for its future iPhones. They are rumored to have curved screens and feature touchless controls. Still, other companies have implemented similar features in the past.

Samsung's Air Gestures tool allowed people to pick up calls and flip through web pages by waving their hands on top of the device. Google's ATAP research group has been working this sort of technology, too, through its Project Soli program. The feature would be based on technology built into the display itself rather than via a motion sensor on the phone's bezel, like with Samsung's implementation, the person explained.

According to Bloomberg, upcoming iPhones could also detect touchless gestures right above the display.

Trust Apple to be different. The iPhone X's OLED screen curves slightly at the bottom, but the shape is hard to detect.
