It had been signed by the doctor who delivered her - Gerald Mortimer, according to the lawsuit.
A woman took a DNA test and discovered her biological father was the fertility doctor her parents had gone to see while trying for a baby.
Sally Ashby and Howard Fowler were under the impression that a mixture of Fowler's sperm and that of approved donors who matched Fowler's physical description were used to inseminate Ashby when the couple struggled to conceive, reports the Daily Beast. Mortimer completed a procedure in June, July, and August 1980 in which a mixture 85% of Fowlers' DNA along with 15% of a donor's DNA are used for the insemination.
They chose a donor who was in college and who looked like Mr Fowler - over 1.80 metres tall with brown hair and blue eyes.
Kelli Rowlette's parents had no clue their fertility doctor had used his own sperm in the reproduction process.
Ms Roulette was conceived via artificial insemination in the 1980s. "Had Mr. Fowler and Ms. Ashby known Dr. Mortimer was going to inseminate Ms. Ashby with his own genetic material, they would not have agreed to the Procedure", the complaint says.
If you don't believe me, wait until you hear about Gerald Mortimer, a retired Idaho Falls obstetrician and gynecologist who was just sued by the woman who allegedly discovered he's her biological father.
The family filed the lawsuit in Idaho last week, accusing both parties of medical negligence, fraud, battery, negligent infliction of emotional distress and breach of contract, according to NPR.
More news: No joke: More snow likely Friday and possible nor'easter next week"Dr. Mortimer cried when Ms. Ashby informed him they were moving".
Rowlette was devastated to find out that Mortimer was her biological father, but she needed a few extra months to discover the true extent of what that name meant.
According to Courthouse News, the lawsuit mentions that Ms Ashby, Mr Fowler, and their two children eventually moved away from Idaho Falls to Washington State.
Metro.co.uk has attempted to contact Kelli Rowlette and Dr Mortimer for comment.
It is not clear if Dr Mortimer has an attorney. "Ancestry.com predicted a parent-child relationship between Dr. Mortimer and Mrs. Rowlette". While tidying up her his roll-top desk, she found her birth certificate.
As a result, "people may learn of unexpected connections" unless they choose to make their DNA match settings private. Though the name was foreign to her, horrifyingly to Rowlette's parents, it was a name that they recognized nearly all too well.
"With Ancestry, customers maintain ownership and control over their DNA data", the statement continued. Mortimer apparently thought it was okay to use himself as a donor without telling the couple what he did.
This isn't the first time a male doctor has been accused of using his own sperm in a fertility treatment procedure.
