Mexico Gives Transit Visas to Illegal Alien Caravan Marchers

  • Caravan in Trump's Crosshairs Stalls Far From Border

In contrast, previous reports about the caravan clearly stated that most of the illegal aliens in it wanted to reach the United States either by crossing illegally at the border or applying for asylum.

Caravans like this one are common as an attempt to raise awareness, but they exist apart from the regular flow of migrants.

Over a thousand undocumented immigrants traveling in a caravan, who are in a camp at Mexican border town, Puebla, are being issued visas.

Although the president has repeatedly warned about the dangers of illegal immigrants pouring over the border, the numbers have fallen.

The caravan at the heart of the latest border flareup was marching northward to draw attention to the migrants' plight, with most heading to official US border crossings to apply for asylum and some hoping to break off and cross illegally.

The agents chose to issue most of the travelers "exit visas", which the Mexican government has previously granted Central American caravans and other travelers seeking to reach the U.S.

On Thursday, Trump credited Mexico's "strong immigration laws" with disbanding the caravan and preventing a "giant scene" at the border.

Mujica praised the Mexican government for its response.

Guerrero has suffered more violence than any other state leading up to the July 1 general elections, when Mexican citizens will vote not only for the president and members of congress, but also to fill more than 18,000 local and federal government positions. But the logistics remain fluid.

But, Trump's claim that the caravan is breaking up as a result of any sort of actions by the Mexican government suggests that he doesn't understand what the caravan actually is - and what they hope to accomplish. More than 20 people were killed in post-election protests, and Honduras has always been unsafe for activists.

"If you have a baby on our land, congratulations, that baby is a United States citizen", Trump lamented.

"In many places, like California, the same person votes many times. They're rapists. And some, I assume, are good people", he said previously.

The hundreds of people gathered here still face daunting prospects.

"The cell will focus on supporting (the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol) priorities based on missions and threats, which will determine the time frame and number of military personnel employed", the statement said.

"You take the risk of staying in your own country, where they are going to kill you, or you take the risk of taking this path, which is risky", Bonilla said. "We will act only in the best interest of Mexican".

Trump has made the migrant caravan a central theme in tweets.

So, during the afternoon hours, the USA president threatened his Latin American neighbor with ending the negotiations on the North American Free Trade Agreement.
