Lee Ellis, a 55-year-old dog walker in the Toronto area, said she had been thinking about becoming an organ donor for a while, but only got around to it this weekend after coming across a tweet encouraging others to follow Boulet's lead. "Now, as a part of pilot project, we are trying to educate and reel-in young students for which we have talked to MUHS that has agreed to support our ambitious campaign to rope in students to donate their organs", Dr. Pravin Shingare, the Director of DMER told the Free Press Journal. "This is definitely going to be part of his legacy".

"Receiving a transplant gives you another chance at life".

Nicole Stokke in Nanaimo, B.C., said on Facebook that it took her less than three minutes to register as a donor on her cellphone, and she didn't even have to leave her bed. "Life is so short".

There now are more than 120,000 men, women and children waiting for organ transplants in the United States, and every 10 minutes, another person is added to the waiting list, according to the organization's website.

"Today, approximately 117,000 people are waiting for a lifesaving organ transplant", Poythress said.

They want to remind people it only takes one person to save a life.

By giving consent for organ donation, in death, a donor can save up to eight lives through organ donation and enhance up to 75 others through tissue donation.

A flag raising ceremony was held Tuesday afternoon outside the Methodist University Hospital Transplant Institute to celebrate "National Donate Life" month.

Officials in Canada said online registration to become organ donators has surged over the past few days, with many taking to social media to personally name Boulet as the reason they made the decision.

"In the absence of the facilities at the GMC, the blood samples of the donors and the recipients are sent to Mumbai for tissue typing or matching which at times could be inconvenient and hence there is a need to set up these facilities at the GMC", said a senior faculty member.
