It is unclear whether the company will also include details of a user's advertising profiling in its data download.

Facebook's photo-sharing platform, Instagram will soon allow its users to download their data. Taking a photo or video using Focus mode still permits users of the feature to add filters, stickers or text once you've finished recording.

Unlike Facebook, Instagram users can't drag or tap and hold on images to save them and they can't download images they have already posted.

While its parent company faces a grilling on Capitol Hill, Instagram is rolling out some fun new features to keep users amused.

Per TechCrunch, that law also requires apps to have some form of data portability. During the Congressional testimony, CEO Mark Zuckerberg confirmed that the social media network will comply with the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Instagram the number one photo sharing platform of today's new generation is all set to get a new set of tools. Yesterday, Instagram launched Focus which is their software trickery to enable you to take portrait mode like shots.

"But at a high level it allows you to download and export what you have shared on Instagram".

Instagram and Snapchat have been engaged in an extensive Cold War over the past couple of years to out-innovate the other when it comes to creating engaging tools for their users to take advantage of. It's also not clear whether the tool will function as a full account backup solution - keeping copies of stories, friends lists and so on - or if it will be limited to photos, videos and messages.

The Instagram spokesperson did not reveal a specific launch date for the tool, but it will likely be rolled out before May 25. However, before doing that, users might want pristine copies of everything they ever shared for portability's sake, something Facebook has offered since 2010.
