Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens Won't Resign over Reported Sexual Abuses

  • Missouri governor slams blackmail allegations as 'political witch hunt'

The document contains testimony from "Witness 1", a woman who alleged that Greitens subjected her to sexual and physical abuse.

House Minority Floor Leader Gail McCann Beatty, D-Kansas City, called on Greitens to "immediately resign".

A special legislative committee investigating Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens says it will release its report Wednesday.

Read the entire report here. A legislative panel is considering whether to recommend impeachment. The committee, composed of five Republicans and two Democrats, was established February 27, five days after Greitens' indictment.

On Twitter, Kendrick called Greitens "scum". He also borrowed a term from President Trump, saying, "This is exactly what happens with witch hunts in Washington, D.C. Smearing, lying, attacking people who want to change how things are done is wrong in Washington and it's wrong in Missouri".

Republican House Speaker Todd Richardson called the woman's testimony "beyond disturbing" and defended the integrity of the investigation.

In modern politics, Morris said, a "witch hunt" is usually carried out by one's political opponents. The panel next is to recommend whether lawmakers should begin impeachment proceedings to try to remove the Republican governor from office.

The woman's attorney, Scott Simpson, declined to comment on the video, citing a gag order in the criminal case. He later invited her to his St. Louis home while his wife was out of town. After taking her keys, searching her purse, and patting her down, he said he wanted to show her a workout and invited her to change into an outfit he'd put out for her - men's pajama trousers and a t-shirt with a slit cut at the top. "Because if I thought he was this terrible person, I really felt shameful of myself".

"Witness 1 further testified that Greitens pulled his trousers down and "pulled his penis out ... max, six inches or something" from her face while she was still crying and felt that she had no other choice if she were going to get out of the basement", the report states.

She testified that she never gave him consent to take her clothes off and take her picture.

"Should the governor choose not to resign, I am persuaded that he has not only burned bridges, he has blown them up to where it will be impossible for him to effectively lead the state going forward", Kehoe said in a statement. "And they know, they need to know, that fake charges and falsehoods aren't going to stop us".

As she attempted to leave the basement where the encounter was occurring, she said Greitens picked her up in a "a bear hug" she described as "not hard".

After Grietens helped her down, she said she told him "I'm leaving" and headed for the stairs.

After telling Greitens, "I don't want this", the woman testified that Greitens unbound her hands. "I just, like, was crying". Louis, the other Democratic member of the committee, she said the committee needed to extend its investigation to finish examining issues beyond those contained in the report. The woman said she didn't want to perform oral sex but did so because she felt "coerced". I believe that there is one person who could get this soldier to stand down.

The witness added to her statement later.

6 - The first House committee meeting is held; other ones will be at a Jefferson City police station to provide witnesses more privacy than they would have in the Capitol. Prosecutors in his criminal case previously acknowledged that they don't have the photo, though they could be trying to obtain it. Her attorney has repeatedly sought anonymity on her behalf.

"There is a process, and I trust it", Stacy said. And I instantly just started bawling and was just like, What is wrong with you?

"Witness 1 testified that she did not believe the slap was meant to physically hurt her", the report states. Asked in a January interview with The Associated Press if he had ever slapped the woman, Greitens responded: "Absolutely not".

Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens calls it an "entirely consensual relationship".

The woman told lawmakers that she visited Greitens's house in March 2015 and he allegedly blindfolded her, bound her to exercise equipment, spanked her, and tried to kiss her - all without her consent. During a haircut, Greitens moved his hand "all the way up", to her crotch without consent, the woman said, a move that left her "curious", and confused.

The committee's report does not recommend legislators take actions against Greitens, though the committee will continue its work through the end of the session. She was also married at the time.

Greitens is due to go to trial in St. Louis on the felony charge May 14. That probe came after media reports that Greitens' campaign had obtained and used a charity donor list in 2015 as it ramped up fundraising for his gubernatorial bid.
