Nigeria climb in FIFA World Rankings, Tunisia remain in top spot

African teams bound for the 2018 FIFA World Cup marked notable improvements, with Tunisia achieving the country's best ever FIFA ranking in the 14th place, from 23rd. The Eagles are now sixth in Africa - two places above their seventh position in March. The Egyptians dropped two places from their position in March. The South Africa 2013 African Cup of Nations winners still trailed Tunisia, Senegal, Congo DR, Morocco and Egypt on the continent.

While there were no changes in the top two positions, with Germany staying at the top of the rankings ahead of Brazil, Belgium climbed onto the podium into third spot.

Nigeria's group opponents, Argentina, Croatia and Iceland were ranked 5th, 18th and 22nd respectively.

Federation Internationale de Football Association were planning to introduce a 48-team World Cup for the 2026 edition of the competition, with a venue for that event yet to be decided upon.

The next rankings will be published on May 17, 2018.
