No one was severely injured during the incident but the students needed a couple of stitches.

The attacker was taken into custody by police and released to his parents.

The Minnesota elementary school student used a similar knife to attack his classmates.

He was expelled on Monday and consequently made the alleged threat against the Next Gymnasium upper secondary school, where the incident took place.

The boy allegedly cut three children with the knife in less than a minute. The case will be forwarded to prosecutors, KARE said.

Stagebarn Middle School will open their doors next year to students grades 5 through 7 and then the following year they will add the 8th graders.

"I don't think he had an intended target when he came to school with the knife".

"They don't charge children this young with crimes", the chief said "You try to get them treatment and help them be successful". Pleasantview has 720 students in kindergarten through fifth grade, according to the school district's website.

School officials say mental health support will be available for students and staff who witnessed the attack.

The school district sent an email home to parents that read, "In situations like this the District's discipline policy is applied and aggressive students are not allowed in the building (s)".

An area elementary school is closing at the end of the school year.
