Four Palestinians shot dead by Israeli forces in Gaza Strip: ministry

The Gaza Health Ministry says two more Palestinians, including a 15-year-old boy, have been killed by Israeli army fire on the Gaza border.

In all the Gaza ministry said that some 445 people were injured, including 96 from live fire. Both Palestinians killed were shot east of Jabaliya in the north of the Gaza Strip, the health ministry said.

The individual as been identified as Mohammad Ibrahim Ayoub, he was said to have been killed by live ammunition during the fourth consecutive week of clashes after Palestinian factions announced a six week "Great March of Return".

Despite mounting concerns from the worldwide community-including Israeli-American actress Natalie Portman-Israeli soldiers reportedly killed at least four Palestinians and injured hundreds on Friday as the March of Great Return continued for the fourth straight week in Gaza.

The decision-which has compelled right-wing Israeli politicians to demand that her citizenship be revoked-was a notable departure for the actress, who, in a 2015 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, had criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, but also emphasized that she didn't want to use her platform to "shit on Israel".

If, as the Israeli military has claimed, the number of protesters was reduced from the 10,000 who marched last Friday, the number of dead nonetheless increased fourfold. It charged Gaza residents with participating in "violent disturbances"-not a single Israeli has been injured in the course of three weeks of protest-and warned them to "Stay away from the [border] fence and do not attempt to damage it". The protests are calling for Palestinian refugees to be allowed to return to their former lands now inside Israel.

Israeli military aircraft have dropped leaflets urging Palestinians to stay away from the Gaza-Israel border fence and warning that they endanger their lives if they follow directives of Hamas organizers of weekly protests there.

"And that's what the Israelis fear".

Egypt was no doubt acting on behalf of Saudi Arabia and the other Sunni oil monarchies, which are ever more closely aligning themselves with the USA and Israel in preparation for military confrontation with Iran. Israel's military deployed snipers ahead of the protests, and the military was given permission to open fire on protesters if there was extreme danger or if Palestinians attempted to cross the border into Israel.

The border blockade has trapped almost all of them, gutted the economy and deepened poverty. Gaza residents typically get fewer than five hours of electricity per day, while unemployment has soared above 40 per cent. Israel sees the BDS movement as an attempt to delegitimise it.

Avigdor Lieberman was visiting near the Gaza border Friday when asked if he was anxious.

Photos show protesters amid in heavy plumes of smoke as they burn tires and hurl objects toward Israeli forces near the border.

Two weeks ago, photographer Yaser Murtaja died after being shot in the stomach despite wearing a blue flak jacket marked with the word "press".

Israel has faced some global criticism for its response to the mass marches.

"We use the kites to send a message that we are capable of bothering the occupation", said 16-year-old Abdullah.

Palestinians protesters throw stones during clashes near the border with Israel in the east of Gaza City, April 20, 2018.

"We will not bargain on the Palestinian people's rights in exchange for bread", he said.

The "March of Return" demonstrations are in support of the right of these refugees and their descendants, who make up some 1.3 million out of Gaza's population of 1.9 million, and number at least 5.5 million internationally, to return to their homeland, a right guaranteed under global law and reaffirmed by United Nations resolutions.
