Natalie Portman is facing criticism from Israeli government officials for cancelling her trip to the country to collect the 2018 Genesis Prize.

The Hollywood superstar said she didn't want to seem to be endorsing the escalating violence against the Palestinians by visiting to accept the Genesis Prize, which is sometimes called the "Jewish Nobel". "But the mistreatment of those suffering from today's atrocities is simply not in line with my Jewish values", she said. "O, corruption, inequality, and abuse of power".

Government ministers said Portman appeared to have been manipulated by the Palestinian-led worldwide campaign to boycott Israel.

Late Friday, however, she issued a statement saying that her objection was to the scheduled presence of the Israeli prime minister at the ceremony.

Israel has come under increasing scrutiny for its response to mass protests on the Gaza-Israel border, in which 28 Palestinians have been killed and hundreds wounded by Israeli fire since March 30.

The event honors Jewish individuals who excel in their professional fields and this year's ceremony was going to celebrate Portman, an Israeli-born actress, for her success. "I treasure my Israeli friends and family, Israeli food, books, art, cinema, and dance'".

However, the Genesis Foundation said it had cancelled its ceremony in June after the Oscar victor pulled out.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Genesis Prize Foundation - which is described as the "Jewish Nobel Prize" recognizing Jewish people who have achieved excellence in their fields - has made a decision to cancel the 2018 ceremony in light of Portman's non-attendance. "Against. I am very, very upset and disappointed that he was re-elected".

The reference at the end of that quote refers to Portman's 2015 directorial debut A Tale of Love and Darkness, a film about Israeli author Amos Oz that takes place during the early years of the state of Israel.

Culture Minister Miri Regev, referring to the Palestinian-led Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions campaign claimed she had "fallen like ripe fruit into the hands of its supporters".

"This experience has inspired me to support a number of charities in Israel", she said.

The Oscar profitable actress was born in Israel, however left for the USA together with her household when she was 4 years outdated.

Held annually in Jerusalem, actor Michael Douglas, sculptor Anish Kapoor and former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg have all received the award since 2014.

Israel's answer to the Nobels, the Genesis Prize Foundation has been forced to cancel their upcoming prize-giving ceremony due to the fact that victor Natalie Portman no longer wishes to attend after recent conflicts within her birth nation.

They went on to say that they feared Portman's choice would "trigger our philanthropic initiative to be politicised".
